While the technologies for SPAs exist, fundamental questions remain, including: 1) what is the best hardware mix, given a SPA's processing needs and physical environment, 2) what is the corresponding software architecture, and 3) how to assess the effectiveness of a SPA in achieving the desired outcomes-more sales, better health, etc. To explore these issues, we need a research infrastructure consisting of : 1) an IoT edge computing platform to explore different IoT devices, frameworks, and workloads, 2) a cloud computing infrastructure for our processing needs and our research on cloud computing, and 3) a user experience lab to explore new interaction metaphors and to evaluate the SPAs
