Content
The training course consists of nine modules divided into four parts:
Understanding the Educational Context in Québec
Before even tackling the subject of autism, the Understanding the Educational Context in Québec module introduces the context for which the training course is designed: the school network. This sets the framework for the interventions suggested throughout the course. In other words, this first module highlights the meaning and rationale behind the actions proposed to foster the educational success of autistic students.Defining Autism and Understanding Autism
The second stage presents the theoretical foundations needed for a better understanding of the characteristics and reality of autistic students. The Defining Autism and Understanding Autism modules provide a foundation for identifying the needs and abilities of autistic students. The information presented in these modules makes it easier to choose which actions to take in a school setting.Structuring the Learning Environment, Supporting Learning and Understanding Behaviour
The third stage contains the Structuring the Learning Environment, Supporting Learning and Understanding Behaviour modules. These modules will introduce you to principles, strategies and concrete ways of supporting the development of competencies in autistic students. The information in these modules must be put into context with the information in the first two segments of this training course: the educational context and the theoretical foundations of autism.Focusing on Collaboration, Preparing for Transitions and Promoting Inclusion
The final modules, entitled Focusing on Collaboration, Preparing for Transitions and Promoting Inclusion, allow us to take a step further toward implementing actions that foster the educational success of autistic students. They illustrate how collaboration and transition planning help us anticipate and respond as a group to the needs of autistic students at school. This final section of the training course calls on us to remain open and reflect on the inclusion of autistic students.
